Cinco de Mayo is not México’s Independence Day (you’re thinking of September 16th)
Second, it is not a national holiday and it is celebrated only in a few places, like Puebla (where the battle took place in 1862… yes, there was a battle. Against a large French army. For some reason, Americans celebrate it more than us Mexicans.)
